Death Angel Live in Manila | Pulp Summer Slam “XI: Resurrection”

MANILA, Philippines – Having three big international acts on the bill was a first for the Pulp Summer Slam’s 11-year history. This year’s edition, which happened on April 30 and dubbed “XI: Resurrection,” was headlined by three of the world’s biggest metal acts Anthrax, Hellyeah and Death Angel.

Anthrax is unanimously considered legends in the metal scene. The group had been in existence since 1981, consistently producing among the loudest music in rock history.

According to band drummer, Charlie Benante, being asked to be part of the concert series was an exciting proposition from the get-go. “We haven’t been to the Philippines and when the offer came up we just said yes right away. I’m really excited to meet local metal fans and just have a great time,” he said the day before the show.

Although fairly new, having formed only in 2006, Hellyeah is also very much popular in that the group is composed of rock personalities from different bands, including former Pantera drummer, Vinnie Paul, Chad Gray and Greg Tribbett from Mudvayne, Tom Maxwell from Nothingface, and Bob Zilla from Damageplan. This pedigree gives them the tag of “superband” netflix among fans. Continue..

Anthrax Live in Manila | Pulp Summer Slam “XI: Resurrection”

At the press conference, Paul, considered the spiritual leader of the group, expressed eagerness to “netflix rock out with Filipinos.”

“Man, I’m just ready to go out there and rock, you know. I’ve heard that you guys are always enthusiastic for music so we’re going to go out there and give you our best,” he offered.

Death Angel, meanwhile, is not new to the festival, having headlined its seventh year. The group is also proudly composed of Filipino-American members. In fact, they were quick to brandish their roots when they shared a couple of Filipino words with the media like “Mahal Kita,” “Pare” and the occasional cuss word.

“Yeah, we are aware of our roots. We ’ve been here here before and we’re glad to be back,” said band guitarist Rob Cavestany.

According to its organizers, there were fans from as far as Sweden, Canada, and the US, as well as neighboring countries such Malaysia and Singapore who come over to specifically watch the show.

Aside from the three international heavyweights headlining the festival, 25 of the biggest local rock bands in the country played at the event such as Kamikazee, Chicosci, Razorback, Hilera, Franco, Moonstar 88, Paramita, Dahong Palay and Imago, among others.

Another special guest for the rock concert was a band from Dubai called Nervecell, apparently one of the most accomplished and influential metal bands in the U.A.E.  Manila Bulletin

Filipino fans of KPOP group 2NE1 will finally hear and see them live perform their hits like “Fire,” “I Don’t Care”, “Nal Ddara Haebwayo”, and “Go Away” in Manila on June at the Araneta Coliseum.

It’s confirmed CL, Minzy, Dara and Bom will definitely rock Manila in their upcoming concert titled “The Party.”

Happee Sy of Pulp Live Productions confirmed the report on Manila Bulletin.
